Climate Change: A Simple Story in a Complex World
Climate change may sound complex with terms like net zero and greenhouse gas emissions, but let's break it down simply. Our Earth is already 1.1C warmer than it was in the 1800s, and this warming is causing significant changes to our climate.
The Role of Food: Beyond Sustenance
One major contributor is the production of food, responsible for about 26% of global emissions. It's like a hidden ingredient in our daily meals, adding a bitter taste to our environment.
The Paris Agreement: A Global Promise
Here's where the world comes together. By 2030, the Paris Agreement aims to reduce emissions by 55% and reach net zero by 2050 (net zero means almost no emissions). It's a global handshake, a promise we've all made to our planet and to each other.

Our roadmap to net zero
The Scope of the Challenge
Imagine a mountain 16 tonnes high. That's the size of carbon emissions each American is responsible for every year. Out of this, a good 26% is a byproduct of our love for food - that’s a substantial chunk of the mountain, roughly the size of five adult elephants!
With the world rallying behind the Paris Agreement's goal to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by 2030, we each have a role to play in chipping away at this food-induced 'carbon mountain.' The aim? To shrink it by half.
The Power of Everyday Choices
Let's bring it down to everyday choices, the meals we consume at our workplaces. As remote and in-person work blends, our office food habits account for a significant 35% of our total food consumption. It's like a routine we weave from Monday to Friday, from breakfast to dinner (though we hope you're home in time for dinner).
As the leading character in your food story, Fraîche can help you make this narrative greener and healthier. Imagine cutting down a year's carbon emissions by 1.5 tonnes just by using Fraîche - that's the equivalent of taking a car off the road for about half a year! Multiply it by a company of 1,000 employees, and you're looking at a reduction of 1,500 tonnes per year - which is like removing a fleet of 500 cars off the streets for a year!
Painting the Bigger Picture
Let's put these figures on a canvas and look at the bigger picture. If ten companies, each with a workforce of 1,000 employees, decide to get onboard the Fraîche train, we can collectively reduce CO2 emissions by a staggering 15,000 tonnes per year. That's like replacing a small coal-fired power plant with renewable energy!
Now, what if we were to add a few more carriages to this train? Imagine the impact if 100 companies join us on this journey - that's a reduction of 150,000 tonnes annually.
These figures might seem like tall tales, but they're not. They're simply a testament to the enormous potential of collective action.

Our starting point
Understanding Our Starting Point: The Path to Net Zero
In order to embark on a journey, you must first know where you stand. That's why we've taken a close look at our current position on the path to net zero.
Net zero is a simple yet profound concept. It means achieving a balance between the greenhouse gasses we release into the atmosphere and the amount we reduce or offset. It's like a perfectly balanced recipe, where every ingredient has its place, and nothing is wasted.
Our Carbon Footprint: A Snapshot
Getting to net zero isn't a walk in the park. We need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible, and that's a challenging task. It's like trying to create a gourmet meal with just a few ingredients.
Thanks to our partners Greenly, we measured and identified our current carbon emissions for 2022: 212tCO2 per $1M of revenue. As we have a target to reduce our carbon emissions by 5% every year, but we are a growing business, we need to use a reference. We decided to use our revenue for that, so we can compare every year to validate we're on the right track.
Aligning with Our Pillars of Sustainability
We looked at where most of our emissions came from and identified steps to reduce our footprint in focus areas that align with our pillars of sustainability: Logistics, Food, Waste, Packaging, Community.
Based on these 5 pillars, we're committed to aligning with our goals of being net zero.

Carbon Offsetting
Net zero isn't just about reducing emissions
We also worked to offset 100% of our remaining emissions by investing in three projects that resonated in alignment with our core pillars and mission at Fraîche.
Running Tide's innovative approach is like a breath of fresh sea air. By using buoys filled with special algae, they capture carbon and release beneficial minerals, sinking the buoys to the deep ocean to store the carbon safely.
WHY IT MATTERS TO US:
This project supports sustainable fisheries, preserves biodiversity, and contributes to the long-term sustainability of our food production systems. It's like planting seeds of hope in the ocean, nurturing a healthier planet.
Grassroots Carbon is reconnecting the land with its roots. By restoring native ecosystems through regenerative grazing techniques, they're turning degraded grasslands into massive carbon storage solutions.
WHY IT MATTERS TO US:
This project fosters a resilient and sustainable food system, enhancing soil health, and supporting biodiversity. It's like giving the land a new lease on life, breathing vitality into our environment.
MyCarbon is on a mission to prevent unplanned deforestation, preserving the native forests that are the lungs of our planet. Through rigorous monitoring and sustainable practices, they're avoiding millions of tons of CO2 emissions.
WHY IT MATTERS TO US:
This project fosters a resilient and sustainable food system, enhancing soil health, and supporting biodiversity. It's like giving the land a new lease on life, breathing vitality into our environment.
